Overview
Raoul Peck builds a searing essay film around the pages James Baldwin never finished, a projected book about the murders of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King Jr. that would have become Baldwin's reckoning with American history. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the film weaves Baldwin's razor-sharp prose against archival footage and Hollywood imagery, arguing that the country's racial wound was never an accident but a design. The result feels less like history than like a mirror held at close range.
