Overview
Joe Bonham lies in a military hospital, limbless and senseless, sealed inside a body that no longer connects him to the world. Trapped in the dark, his mind drifts backward through memory, replaying ordinary moments of youth, love, and family with excruciating tenderness. Dalton Trumbo adapted his own novel for this harrowing anti-war statement, using fractured time and a near-silent interior world to ask what victory actually costs the men left behind to pay for it.
