Overview
Harry Caul can record anything. What he cannot do is stop listening. Francis Ford Coppola's quietly devastating 1974 film follows a professional eavesdropper in San Francisco who becomes consumed by a fragment of conversation he has captured on tape. The more he replays it, the more certain he becomes that something terrible is about to happen. A film about guilt, paranoia, and the unbearable weight of knowing too much, with Gene Hackman delivering one of American cinema's great internalized performances.
