Overview
Baz Luhrmann transplants Shakespeare's feuding dynasties to 1990s Miami, where neon-soaked beaches replace Renaissance plazas and guns substitute for swords. Two teenagers from warring families discover each other at a party and fall desperately in love, marrying in secret. The Bard's unaltered verse plays against a pulsing contemporary landscape, creating friction between timeless language and modern spectacle. Their passion ignites a chain of violence that neither family can contain.
