Overview
In 1890s Wyoming, a Harvard-educated lawman watches the frontier collapse under the weight of money and murder. Wealthy cattle barons have compiled a kill list of immigrant settlers too poor to mount any legal defense, and sheriff James Averill is too compromised by privilege to stop what is coming. Michael Cimino's sprawling, controversial epic traces the rot beneath the American Dream, where class loyalty proves deadlier than any bullet and idealism curdles slowly into complicity.
