Overview
Kenneth Branagh's bold debut as director plants him squarely in the mud and blood of the Hundred Years' War, following a young English king who must shed the reckless prince he once was and forge a sovereign out of sheer will. The 1415 campaign into France becomes less a glorious march than a brutal reckoning, and Branagh finds in Shakespeare's language something raw and immediate, far closer to the front lines than the throne room.
