Overview
A decorated Roman commander, hardened by conquest and loyal to empire, finds his certainties crumbling when he falls for a young Christian woman living under threat of Nero's court. Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr anchor this sweeping MGM production, while Peter Ustinov delivers an indelible portrait of Nero as petulant, murderous, and faintly absurd. At its core, beneath all the pageantry and persecution, the film is really about what a man decides to believe when love makes the old loyalties feel hollow.
