Overview
Jim Carroll had every reason to believe basketball would carry him out of New York's rough edges and into something better. Instead, heroin pulled him in the opposite direction. Based on Carroll's own journals, the film follows his descent from promising teenage athlete to desperate street kid, with Leonardo DiCaprio delivering a raw, physically committed performance that announced him as something more than a pretty face. It is a portrait of addiction that refuses to soften the damage.
