Overview
Desmond Doss carried a Bible instead of a rifle, and his fellow soldiers thought he was a fool for it. Set against the brutal carnage of the Battle of Okinawa, Mel Gibson's war film follows the Virginia farmboy who became an Army medic on purely religious principle, refusing to touch a weapon. What unfolds on that jagged ridge is both a portrait of conviction under fire and a reckoning with what courage can look like without a gun in hand.
